We enjoyed a fantastic week at Fia Cottage after a weeks camping in the north end of Shetland – the comfort of the cottage was very welcome. The cottage was very clean and well presented and had everything we could possibly need – it was perfect for us! Christine was a great host with really good communication before and during our stay. The cottage was in a great location to explore the south end of Shetland. Our dog was also made very welcome and enjoyed the beautiful Quendale beach only a 15 minutes walk from the cottage. We will definitely consider another holiday here
After a warm welcome from Christine we quickly realised this was home from home. Fia Cottage is a beautiful, warm, clean cottage with all the home comforts you need. Would highly recommend Fia Cottage!!
If, like us, you somehow manage to get a last minute booking at Fia Cottage, you may not know it yet, but it’s probably your lucky day! Fia Cottage is really beautiful, comfortable, and one might even say ‘luxurious’, as Christine and Tommy maintain everything to a very high standard. Not only is it a lovely cottage, but its location makes it a great landing spot whether you like bird watching, learning about the amazing Shetland archaeology or just ambling along the sandy beaches skimming stones across the breaking waves
For the first time ever we took a boat trip rather than exploring on land the whole time and followed the Seabirds and Seals Tour recommended by Christine and Tommy – we felt they were spot on with this recommendation! We walked from the cottage down to Quendale Mill and the beach, as well as climbing Fitful Head for the wonderful views. Slightly further afield (but still only a very short drive) we visited the Ness of Burgi, St Ninian’s Isle, Sumburgh Head and Mousa Broch. All in good weather – it was perfect!
We absolutely loved our family holiday on Shetland. Fia Cottage made for an excellent base for all that the south mainland has to offer. Easy drive to Lerwick, but with the feeling of being ‘off the beaten track’. With an early start you can still explore further afield as we did going to the most northerly point of the most northerly island one day. Fia Cottage itself is comfortable, clean and has all you need including a very generous welcome basket of local goodies. Christine is attentive and helpful, and the neighbours are very friendly. We hope to come back again
We have stayed in Fia Cottage two years running – which is first for us as we like to stay at different locations in Shetland for our annual visit. The reason we returned – we enjoyed it so much last year – and it didn’t disappoint. The weather could have been kinder but there is lots to do even on a misty day. The cottage is lovely and cozy, clean and exceptionally well equipped – a real home from home. Christine and Tommy are very welcoming and attentive. The welcome basket was very ‘welcome’ – I had forgotten what fresh laid eggs taste like and the Shetland butter…. just as well I only visit once a year. Location is great – close to airport and 30 minute drive to Lerwick (on a good road) – close proximity to some beautiful beaches, Spiggie loch for fishing with a permit, lovely walks and bird watching (about a dozen ravens gather on a barn roof just a stones throw from the cottage). We would highly recommend staying at Fia Cottage!
Fia Cottage was a pleasure to stay in for our Shetland holiday. It had everything you could wish for including sharp knives and a pizza cutter – Christine really has thought of everything. The cottage was the cleanest we have ever stayed in and the comfortable beds and cosy duvets meant we had a good sleep every night. We were met by our hosts Christine and Tommy, who were very informative and the welcome basket they left for us was so well thought out. The location of the cottage is perfect and we managed to see the Oracs while we were there too which was an added bonus. We are already planning our next trip to Shetland and Fia Cottage!
Our stay at Fia Cottage was really lovely – we will definitely be returning! The cottage is in a lovely location and easy for bird watching. Everything we could need was to hand in the cottage and it was good of Christine to supply the goodies in the welcome basket
I chose Fia Cottage originally due to the location in the south end of Shetland and staying there for two weeks was very enjoyable. The housekeeping was immaculate and it was a lovely clean cottage with easy to control heating. The hosts, Christine and Tommy were really helpful and the location of the cottage was ideal with a good view over the Hillwell Loch and within walking distance of a picturesque beach and wildlife. Thanks to the Facebook Page, Shetland Orca Sightings, I managed to see the Orcas! I really enjoyed my stay in Shetland and Fia Cottage was prefect! You’re lucky to live in such a lovely part of the world. Can’t wait to come back hopefully with Mrs B next time!
We spent a week at Fia Cottage in May & it has given us many happy memories. We can’t thank you enough for allowing us to stay in your beautiful cottage! It certainly is a ‘home from home’ with everything in it that you could wish for. The location was excellent for sightseeing, walking and seeing the wildlife. One of our favourite walks & scenery was St. Ninians Isle. Hoping to return some day and we would have no hesitation in recommending Fia Cottage to anyone visiting Shetland as it is certainly a first class place to stay!
We enjoyed our stay at Fia Cottage very much, We chose Fia Cottage because it was so close to Sumburgh Head and reachable by bus and the cottage looked very nice and perfectly placed. The cottage had everything we needed and more and it exceeded the expectations we had before our arrival. We loved the very comfortable Kitchen-Livingroom area, with the big windows and there was nothing at all that we didn’t like. Very comfortable and clean house, with everything you might need and a perfect place to stay for exploring the south of Shetland. Beautiful walks and scenery all around, lovely beach and impressive lighthouse. We had a very warm welcome by Christine and Tommy, who are very helpful. Thank you!
