If, like us, you somehow manage to get a last minute booking at Fia Cottage, you may not know it yet, but it’s probably your lucky day! Fia Cottage is really beautiful, comfortable, and one might even say ‘luxurious’, as Christine and Tommy maintain everything to a very high standard. Not only is it a lovely cottage, but its location makes it a great landing spot whether you like bird watching, learning about the amazing Shetland archaeology or just ambling along the sandy beaches skimming stones across the breaking waves
For the first time ever we took a boat trip rather than exploring on land the whole time and followed the Seabirds and Seals Tour recommended by Christine and Tommy – we felt they were spot on with this recommendation! We walked from the cottage down to Quendale Mill and the beach, as well as climbing Fitful Head for the wonderful views. Slightly further afield (but still only a very short drive) we visited the Ness of Burgi, St Ninian’s Isle, Sumburgh Head and Mousa Broch. All in good weather – it was perfect!
