Back Door – Porch/Utility

In older times the back door was primarily used by all family members and visitors would go in the front door.  In Fia Cottage the back door is still used as the main door – particularly so as the parking area is right next to it.  Inside is a fully equipped utility room with all the facilities needed for laundering clothes including a pulley airing system.  A garden shed is to the side of the drying green – handy for storing fishing rods, wellie boots, cycles etc

A door leads from the back porch to a remarkably spacious bathroom complete with bath/shower, toilet and sink.  A heated towel rail warms your towels while an unobtrusive small fan heater is there for extra heat if required – perfect for a long relaxing soak in an extra cosy bathroom

Front Door – Sun Porch

The front door is used mainly for access to the enclosed garden, but may be used as your main entrance if preferred.  The porch itself is quite small, but visitors have told us that they loved having their morning cup of tea in there.  There is just enough room for a couple of chairs and a small coffee table. Looking up towards Ringesta around 4pm daily, you may see the parade of the milking cows being taken from their pasture to the farm for milking

Semi Open-plan Kitchen/sitting room

The kitchen is white and styled to keep the country cottage look, with beautiful metallic tiles reflecting the surrounding colours

Around the corner is the lounge or sitting room area, which is cosy to say the least with the multi-fuel stove and comfortable leather couches.  Included in this area is Satellite TV, DVD player and unlimited internet access  Informational leaflets on all aspects of Shetland are there for you to take with you when out and about

The staircase leads up to a spacious open-plan double bedroom and a large twin bedroom – access to the stairs is via the open-plan bedroom.  Both have quality beds, mattresses and Sanderson’s ‘retro’ bed-linen.  A good night’s sleep is especially important when on holiday – the clean fresh Shetland air is known to make you just that little bit more tired than usual after a long day out

A full bed linen and towel change is offered at no extra charge for stays of two weeks or more.  Settling down to sleep in fresh clean linen is conducive to good sleep
